UditVani, Ranchi : In a remarkable and first-of-its-kind rescue operation in Jharkhand, a male Bengal tiger was successfully tranquilized and rescued by a joint team of the Palamau Tiger Reserve (PTR) and Ranchi Forest Division. The operation was initiated after the tiger, suspected to have strayed from Purulia, West Bengal, was found hiding inside a residential home in Mardu village, causing panic in the surrounding areas.
Supervised by Senior Officials
The high-risk operation was conducted under the chairmanship of S. R. Natesha, Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) and Field Director of PTR. The team included Ranchi DFO Srikanth, Wildlife DFO Awanish, retired veterinarian Dr. Jabbar, representatives from the NTCA, local NGOs, the village mukhiya, and other key personnel.
Overall supervision of the mission was carried out by Paritosh Upadhyay, PCCF (Wildlife) and Chief Wildlife Warden of Jharkhand. Officers Ashish and Prajesh Jena (Deputy Directors, PTR) and frontline staff played critical roles in executing the rescue.
First Successful Tiger Rescue in State
This operation marks Jharkhand’s first successful live capture and tranquilization of a tiger. After the animal was spotted and safely confined in a cage, a tranquilizer was administered to ensure safe transport without causing harm to the animal or the rescuers.
What Happens Next?
The rescued tiger has been shifted to the soft release centre at the Palamau Tiger Reserve. Authorities will now monitor the animal’s health and behavior under observation before taking a final decision regarding its re-release into the wild.
