
UditVani, Jamshedpur : The East Singhbhum district administration has announced dry days in the Ghatshila Assembly constituency from 5 PM on November 9 to 5 PM on November 11, ahead of the upcoming Assembly by-elections.
District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi issued the order under Section 26 of the Excise Act and Section 135(c) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, which mandates a 48-hour prohibition on liquor sales before polling concludes.
During this period, the sale, distribution, or serving of alcoholic beverages in any hotel, restaurant, shop, or private or public place will be strictly banned. Violators may face up to six months’ imprisonment, a fine of Rs 2,000, or both, and any seized liquor will be confiscated and destroyed as per legal provisions.
The administration has directed the Excise Department, police, and local officials to ensure strict enforcement of the order. The Deputy Commissioner appealed to citizens to uphold the integrity of the electoral process by cooperating with authorities and refraining from liquor-related activities during the dry period.
