Udit Vani, Jamshedpur : A delegation of the East Singhbhum District Congress Committee, led by District President Anand Bihari Dubey, today met with the General Manager of JBVNL, Singhbhum circle to submit a comprehensive memorandum addressing various public grievances related to power infrastructure.
The memorandum highlighted more than 14 issues ranging from outdated power lines and poles, overloaded transformers, and erratic billing to unsafe power supply through open wires.
Dubey emphasized the urgent need for upgrading transformers, replacing dilapidated poles, providing monthly bills to consumers, and ensuring safer cable-based power distribution, especially in areas like Birsanagar, Bagunhatu, Baridih Basti, Premnagar, and Lakshminagar where frequent load-shedding has become routine.
He also raised concern over poor maintenance by existing contractors and the risk of short-circuits due to tree branches touching overhead wires.
Several areas reportedly still receive electricity through open wires despite having underground cables laid years ago.
*Key demands include:
* Upgrading transformers in rural and urban areas.
* Immediate replacement of dangerous poles in Azad Nagar and other localities.
* Commissioning insulated cable supply in over a dozen slum areas.
* Rectifying earthing issues of transformers.
* Providing new connections to underserved areas like FCI Road (near Hind Ashram) and parts of Mango and Bagbera.
* Resolving long-pending billing anomalies.
The delegation urged the department for swift action and received assurance that inspections would be carried out and necessary steps taken promptly.
Congress leaders including state secretary Rakesh Kumar Tiwari, KK Shukla, Sanjay Singh Azad (Vice President), and other senior members joined the delegation.
