UditVani, Jamshedpur : In a remarkable achievement, Cyrus Kumar Dutta, a Class 10 student from the Upgraded High School in Gondadih (Narwapahar), has been invited by the Government of Japan to present his innovative science model — a life-saving emergency window ladder — as part of the Sakura Science Exchange Program.
The model, designed to provide a safe escape during fire incidents from multi-storey buildings, was selected through a nationwide competition held last year across government schools.
Cyrus’s creation stood out at the state and national levels, earning him the opportunity to showcase it on an international stage.
Coming from a humble background, Cyrus is the son of Premjeet Dutta, an auto-rickshaw driver, whose earnings could not cover the travel expenses to Japan.
Recognizing his talent and financial constraints, school principal Arun Kumar Singh reached out to UCIL’s CSR department through Gazia Hansda.
In response, UCIL’s Deputy General Manager, Manoranjan Mahali, extended support by presenting a cheque of Rs 25,000 to Cyrus during a school felicitation ceremony on Thursday.
Cyrus, accompanied by his father Premjeet Dutta, left for Delhi the same day. He is scheduled to fly to Japan on June 14 and will return to India on June 24 after presenting his model.
“This is a moment of pride for our school. Cyrus has not only made his parents proud but has also brought recognition to government schools,” said Principal Arun Kumar Singh.
He also explained the utility of the model — a device that enables safe descent from a fourth-floor window to the first floor in emergency situations such as fires.
