UditVani, Jamshedpur : Cyclone Montha, which made landfall along the Andhra Pradesh–Odisha coast, is set to impact Jharkhand’s weather over the next few days.
The system, now moving northward as a weakened depression, will bring widespread rainfall and thunderstorms to several parts of the state.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in north-eastern, south-western, and adjoining central Jharkhand between October 29 and 31.
Districts including Ranchi, West Singhbhum, Simdega, Gumla, Lohardaga, and Bokaro may experience moderate to intense downpours accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph.
The IMD has issued a yellow alert for multiple districts, warning of potential waterlogging, tree falls, and minor disruptions in road and power connectivity. Residents have been urged to stay indoors during severe weather and avoid venturing near rivers, dams, and water bodies.
Agriculture activities are also expected to be affected, with officials advising farmers to delay harvesting and drying of crops until the weather stabilizes. The ongoing cloud cover and rains are likely to reduce day temperatures, bringing a brief spell of coolness after an extended dry phase.
Disaster management teams and district administrations have been placed on alert. Continuous monitoring of rainfall and river levels is underway, officials said, with emergency response units ready for deployment if needed.
Meteorologists predict that as Cyclone Montha further weakens into a low-pressure area, its influence may persist till November 1, keeping skies cloudy and rainfall intermittent across Jharkhand.
