UditVani Jamshedpur : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a weather alert for Jharkhand as Cyclone “Montha” intensifies over the Bay of Bengal and moves toward the Andhra Pradesh coast.
The storm, brewing over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, is expected to strengthen into a severe cyclonic storm before crossing the coast between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, near Kakinada, by Tuesday night (October 28).
The cyclone’s outer bands are expected to impact weather conditions over Jharkhand from October 28 to 31, triggering heavy rainfall, lightning, and gusty winds across several regions.
Forecast highlights
October 28: Heavy rainfall likely over southwestern Jharkhand; thunderstorms with gusty winds (30–40 Kmph) at isolated places.
October 29: Heavy rain over southwestern and adjoining central districts; thunderstorms and lightning to continue.
October 30: Heavy to very heavy rainfall expected over northwestern Jharkhand; heavy rain also likely in central parts.
October 31: Heavy rain over northeastern districts with continued thunderstorm activity.
The IMD has urged residents to stay indoors during storms, avoid open areas during lightning, and secure loose materials to prevent damage from strong winds.
Farmers have been advised to postpone harvesting and protect standing crops.
Very light rainfall (0.5 mm) was recorded at Simdega in the last 24 hours — an early sign of the system’s expanding reach.
District administrations and disaster response teams across southern, central, and northern Jharkhand are on high alert as the state braces for a possible spell of intense weather triggered by cyclone “Montha.”
