UditVani, Jamshedpur : Two commandos of the Central Reserve Police Force’s elite CoBRA battalion sustained serious injuries after triggering an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Maoists in the Digha region of West Singhbhum district on Friday afternoon.
The injured personnel have been airlifted to Ranchi for advanced medical treatment.
The incident took place during a search operation in the dense forested area, as part of an ongoing anti-Naxal campaign.
According to Chaibasa Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ranjan, the Maoists had strategically buried IEDs along potential troop movement paths to inflict maximum damage on security forces.
This is the latest in a series of targeted attacks in the region. Just two days ago, a railway trackman was killed after stepping on a Maoist-planted IED on the Karamapada–Rengda railway line. In June, CoBRA jawan Satyawan Kumar Singh lost his life in a similar explosion in the Saranda forest. March also saw three separate IED incidents in the district, resulting in the death of a sub-inspector and injuries to five other personnel.
Security forces believe that top CPI (Maoist) commanders — including Misir Besra, Anmol, Mochu, Anal, Asim Mandal, Ajay Mahato, Sagen Angaria, and Ashwin — are currently active in the Saranda and Kolhan regions. In response, intensified operations are underway.
Over the last three months, the police and CRPF units have dismantled more than a dozen Maoist arms and explosive dumps, recovering a significant cache of weapons and ammunition.
Despite repeated setbacks, the forces remain committed to dismantling the Maoist infrastructure in this volatile region.
