Uditvani, Jamshedpur : In the wake of alleged irregularities reported at the Chaibasa Blood Bank, a five-member central investigation team comprising officials from Delhi and Ranchi arrived in Jamshedpur and conducted a surprise inspection at the MGM Medical College and Hospital Blood Bank.
The inspection followed complaints of discrepancies in blood collection, storage, and record management, which had raised concerns over compliance with national blood safety and management protocols.
According to sources, the visiting team included experts from the National Blood Transfusion Council (NBTC) and the State Blood Cell, Jharkhand, under the National Health Mission (NHM). They conducted a thorough verification of the hospital’s blood stock records, donor registry, and digital data entries.
During the inspection, the team cross-checked manual registers with entries on the central online portal, emphasizing the importance of timely and transparent data updates.
The officials also reviewed the cold chain maintenance system, component separation unit, and safety protocols followed during blood transfusion.
The team reportedly issued strict instructions to hospital authorities to ensure that all entries are updated on the e-RaktKosh portal, the national integrated blood bank management system.
They also called for periodic internal audits and real-time monitoring to prevent data manipulation or discrepancies.
A senior health official stated, “The inspection is part of a state-wide drive to ensure transparency and accountability in blood bank operations. Any lapses found will attract departmental action.”
Hospital sources confirmed that the team interacted with the blood bank in-charge, lab technicians, and hospital superintendent, seeking clarifications on stock variations and documentation practices.
The probe comes amid growing scrutiny of blood bank operations across Jharkhand after reports surfaced suggesting mismatch between actual and recorded blood stock data at the Chaibasa facility.
The findings from the MGM inspection are expected to be compiled into a detailed report and submitted to the Union Health Ministry and the Jharkhand Health Department for further action.
