UditVani, Jamshedpur: Panic gripped the Old Ulidih area under the Ulidih Out Post ( OP) on Saturday morning after the body of a middle-aged man was recovered from a dilapidated and abandoned house.
The deceased has been identified as Ritul Karmakar.
On receiving information, Ulidih OP police rushed to the spot, inspected the scene and took the body into custody.
After completing the required legal formalities, the body was sent for post-mortem examination.
Local residents told police that Karmakar used to survive on alms and often spent nights in old and deserted houses in the area.
His body was found lying inside one such unsafe structure, triggering panic and drawing a crowd.
Eyewitnesses claimed that froth was seen coming out of the deceased’s mouth, raising suspicion of poisoning or a possible snake or insect bite.
Some locals also suggested that excessive alcohol consumption might have led to his death.
Police officials said the exact cause of death would be ascertained only after the post-mortem report.
An investigation is underway, and all possible angles are being examined.
