UditVani, Jamshedpur : Winter tightened its grip across Jharkhand on Monday as Lohardaga recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at a bone-chilling 3.4 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Ranchi, said in its latest weather bulletin.
The IMD’s morning observations revealed a widespread drop in night temperatures, keeping most districts 2 to 5 degrees below seasonal averages.
Despite the sharp chill, the department clarified that no cold wave conditions were declared across the state.
In the capital region, Ranchi logged a minimum temperature of 6.6°C, while Kanke, situated on higher terrain, experienced colder conditions with the mercury dipping to around 5°C, intensifying the early-morning chill for residents.
Dense fog was reported in several areas during the morning hours, with visibility plunging to as low as 300 metres in Ranchi, disrupting normal activities. Foggy conditions were also observed in Jamshedpur, Daltonganj and Deoghar.
Day temperatures remained subdued across Jharkhand. Jagannathpur in West Singhbhum recorded the highest maximum temperature at 23.2°C, while most other districts remained well below normal.
No rainfall was reported anywhere in the state during the past 24 hours, the IMD said.
Weather officials attributed the prevailing cold conditions to dry northwesterly winds and clear skies, which are allowing temperatures to fall sharply during the night.
Similar conditions are expected to continue over the next few days, with fog likely to recur in the early morning hours.
People have been advised to remain cautious during late night and early morning hours, particularly children, the elderly and those exposed to open weather.
