UditVani, Jamshedpur : Students from Loyola School here and De Nobili School, Bhuli, attended an engaging online astronomy session on December 1, 2025, led by renowned Jesuit astronomer Fr. Richard A. D’Souza, S.J.
Fr. Vinod Fernandez, Principal of Loyola School, Tr. Jayanti Sheshadri, Vice Principal, and senior alumnus Mr. Rony D’Costa joined the event, which highlighted Fr. D’Souza’s Ph.D. from Ludwig Maximilian University, Munich in 2016, and his work with global observatories on galaxies and cosmic structures. He began by discussing the historic Jesuit contributions to astronomy, from observatories to research, linking faith and science for centuries.

A highlight was Fr. D’Souza revealing an asteroid named in his honor, exciting students about science’s lasting impact. He simplified star formation from gas and dust clouds, their shifting sky positions, and key theories, making complex ideas accessible.

The interactive Q&A covered galaxies and space exploration, with Fr. D’Souza addressing queries to spark curiosity and critical thinking. The session, amid Loyola’s recent STEM events like the November 2025 exhibition featuring astronomy demos, motivated students beyond textbooks.
Schools thanked Fr. D’Souza for inspiring young learners, reinforcing Loyola’s commitment to innovative education.
