UditVani, Jamshedpur : Former Chief Minister Arjun Munda on Thursday demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for the killing of senior tribal leader and Padha Raja Soma Munda, describing the incident as a serious reflection of the deteriorating law-and-order situation in Jharkhand.
Arjun Munda visited Chalangi village in Khunti district, met the bereaved family and paid tribute to Soma Munda, who was shot dead by unidentified assailants earlier this week.
Calling the murder tragic and highly condemnable, he urged the state administration to act promptly and sensitively to prevent such incidents in the future. He stressed that strengthening law and order was imperative.
Soma Munda was killed near Jamuadag under the Khunti police station area while returning to his village on a motorcycle with his wife.
According to police, two assailants on another motorcycle intercepted them and opened fire, killing him on the spot before fleeing towards Mandarutoli.
Police officials said a special investigation team has been formed and raids are underway to arrest the culprits. Soma Munda’s death has triggered widespread anger among tribal organisations.
A respected leader, educationist, convener of the Tribal Coordination Committee in Khunti and an active member of the Jharkhand Party, his killing led to a Khunti bandh, with organisations demanding immediate arrests and better security.
Police have appealed for peace as the investigation continues.
