Jamshedpur, April 4: In a significant breakthrough, Adityapur police on Friday arrested Mohammed Zameel Ansari alias Chhota Raju—an accused in the sensational Afsar Ali murder case.
Along with the arrest, police seized 77.47 grams of brown sugar valued at approximately Rs 16 lakh and two live 8 mm cartridges from his possession.
Chhota Raju, a feared criminal, was on the run since the murder of Afsar Ali, a known drug supplier from Adityapur Muslim Bustee.
Ali had gone missing on the evening of March 13 after accompanying an acquaintance. His bullet-ridden body was discovered the next morning near Sitarampur dam in Gamharia, roughly eight kilometers from his residence.
The murder case, registered under Gamharia thana, saw two earlier arrests on March 22—Abdul Karim and Fakr Alam. During interrogation, the duo revealed that the murder was orchestrated by Chhota Raju as part of a larger fallout within the region’s drug network.
Speaking to mediamen today Adityapur police station in-charge Rajiv Kumar Singh stated that following the arrest of notorious lady drug peddler Dolley Perveen three years ago, Afsar Ali had taken over the drug distribution operations across Adityapur and parts of the steel city.
Singh emphasized that Ali’s murder was a direct consequence of rivalry within the narcotics trade, with Chhota Raju playing a central role in both the conspiracy and execution.
The arrest is being seen as a major blow to the local drug network and a step forward in ensuring justice in the high-profile murder case.
