Jamshedpur: Additional Director General of Police (Training & Modernization), Jharkhand, Suman Gupta, today chaired a high-level review meeting t at the Police Headquarters in Ranchi to assess the status of criminal investigations under the newly enacted criminal laws.
The meeting focused on the use of electronic methods in case investigations, timely case disposal, and incorporation of scientific methods in evidence collection.
The meeting was attended physically by senior officials including DIG Kartik S., the nodal officer for CCTNS, DIG Sandhya Rani Mehta (Crime Investigation), SP Rishabh Jha (ATS), and key members from the police headquarters. Senior IGs, DIGs, SPs (including Railway SPs) participated virtually.
During the review, Gupta emphasized 100% electronic evidence collection through the e-Saakshya mobile app, which includes videography and photography of crime scenes, search and seizure operations, and electronic recording of statements of victims and witnesses. She directed all districts to compulsorily deploy forensic teams at scenes of crimes punishable with imprisonment of seven years or more.
Further, districts were instructed to complete investigations within the stipulated 60 or 90 days as prescribed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Regional DIGs were assigned responsibility for ensuring compliance and regular monitoring at the district level.
ADG Gupta also stressed the importance of real-time and high-quality data entry in the CCTNS system. She announced that a special training campaign for police officers and personnel on CCTNS data quality would be launched across the state in May–June 2025.
The meeting reaffirmed Jharkhand Police’s commitment to modernize its investigation processes with technology and scientific rigor to align with the new legal framework.
