UditVani, Jamshedpur : Two minor girls from Jamshedpur’s Golmuri area have gone missing under suspicious circumstances, prompting police to register a case of abduction.
The incident, believed to have occurred on the evening of June 23, came to light when the girls, aged 15 and 17, failed to return home after stepping out around 6 PM.
Following a frantic search and inputs from local residents, it was alleged that the girls were lured away by a youth identified as Sumit Mandal, a resident of Kolebira in Seraikela-Kharsawan district, with assistance from two unidentified men. The families of the girls filed a formal complaint at the Golmuri police station on June 24.
Acting swiftly, police have lodged an FIR under IPC Sections 363 (kidnapping), 366A (procuration of minor girls), and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Investigators suspect the motive may involve an intent to force marriage or potential trafficking, considering the minors’ ages.
Police are treating the case as pre-planned and deliberate, citing the familiarity between the accused and the victims and the coordinated manner of their disappearance. “We suspect that the girls were manipulated with false promises. The entire sequence points to a well-orchestrated plan,” said a senior officer.
A special team has been constituted to investigate the case using both digital tracking and ground intelligence. Authorities are analyzing call detail records and mobile phone locations to locate the girls and apprehend the suspects.
Golmuri police station in-charge stated, “Given the gravity of the situation, we’re moving on war footing. Our focus is to rescue the minors safely and bring the culprits to justice.”
Meanwhile, the incident has left the families devastated, who are pleading for immediate action. Police have assured them that every possible effort is being made to trace the girls and bring them home.
