UditVani, Jamshedpur: A gang of armed criminals this morning opened fire on a 27- year-old youth identified as Shubham Ghosh at the Harijan Bustee in Dhatkidih under Bistupur police station area.
The gunshot attack victim is the son of slain liquor mafia Munna Ghosh.
He was attacked by three youths waiting for him while he was returning home alongwith a friend by foot from the Dhatkidih vegetable market.
The victim who sustained three bullets — one near the chest and two other in the abdomen area was rushed to the Tata Main Hospital where his condition was stated to be critical.
As the news about the gunshot attack spread a large number of bustee dwellers, including women reached the spot and created a ruckus.
Getting to know about the incident, a police party from Bistupur thana rushed to the spot. City SP Kumar Shivashish and DSP (CCR) Manoj Kumar Thakur also rushed to the spot to control the situation.
According to eye-witnesses account the victim’s friend Rahul said and Shubham were negotiating a road through Dhatkidih market, three bike-borne youths intercepted them.
One of the three, identified as Shibu fished out a pistol and trained it at Shubham who somehow caught the former. But in the meantime, some youths suddenly emerged from an adjoining lane. Having reached the spot, three of those youths started firing indiscriminately at Shubham, causing him to sustain three gun shots. As Shubham collapsed on the ground, the attackers fled.
The police, however, succeeded in pacifying the desperadoes having assured them that those involved in the attack would be arrested soon.
But, keeping the sensitivity of the incident, the City SP deployed Quick Response Teams (QRTs) at the crime scene.
Shubham Ghosh too has a criminal record and was accused in a murder case.
Personal rivalry is said to have resulted in the attack.
