
UditVani, Jamshedpur : The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Jharkhand organized the 6th edition of the CII Jharkhand Safety Talk in Jamshedpur, bringing together over 300 industry leaders, safety professionals, and experts to deliberate on AI-driven safety innovations, employee well-being, and sustainable safety practices.
The event organised at The Cruze emphasized that safety is both a moral duty and a strategic investment, underscoring leadership’s role, technological adoption, and proactive prevention as the cornerstones of industrial safety.
Discussions spanned topics from workplace safety and mental health to regulatory compliance and public safety, reinforcing the idea that a safe workforce is key to sustainable industrial and national growth.

Leadership, Technology, and Emotional Well-being
Rajiv Mangal, Chairman, CII Eastern Region Safety Subcommittee and Vice President – Safety, Health & Sustainability, Tata Steel Ltd, emphasized that safety is a core business responsibility. Stressing that good safety practices drive good business performance, he urged industries to embrace technology-driven prevention through AI, analytics, wearables, smart PPE, and remote operation centers. He highlighted the importance of using data and CCTV proactively for risk prediction and called attention to employee emotional well-being as a critical factor in preventing accidents.
Safety as a Strategic Investment
Abhijit A Nanoti, Chairman, CII Jamshedpur Zonal Council and Managing Director, JCAPCPL, reaffirmed that safety extends beyond compliance to encompass wellness, productivity, and organizational sustainability.
He stressed that leadership empathy and conviction are vital to nurturing strong safety cultures, while investments in safety yield tangible returns through improved trust, performance, and retention.
Government’s Focus on Compliance and Worker Health
Avinash Thakur, Labour Superintendent, Seraikela Kharsawan & Chaibasa, Department of Labour, Government of Jharkhand, underscored that protecting workers’ safety is a noble responsibility that fortifies the nation’s workforce.
He called for strict adherence to updated safety norms, credible audits, regular medical checkups, and proactive hazard monitoring, noting that the state government has already begun medical examinations for registered construction workers.
Evolving Safety Landscape and Collaboration
Neeraj Kumar Sinha, Convenor, CII Jharkhand Safety Panel and Chief Safety, Tata Steel Ltd, noted that India’s safety ecosystem has matured alongside its industrial growth.
He emphasized that health and safety are integral to every aspect of life, urging continuous innovation, collaboration, and awareness to address emerging challenges such as digital fatigue and mental health.
Safety as a Moral Promise
Rahul Bahti, Director, Fall Arrest Systems & Technologies Pvt Ltd, called for a paradigm shift from reactive to proactive safety culture, stating that “a safer India is a stronger India.”
He emphasized that safety builds worker dignity, enhances productivity, and strengthens the nation’s progress.
Session on CEO Leadership in Driving Safety Beyond the Workplace
Led by Rajiv Mangal, the session explored leadership’s pivotal role in embedding safety into organizational culture and behavior.
Citing that nearly 20 road accidents occur every hour in India, he called for disciplined behavior—consistent seatbelt use, zero tolerance for drunk driving, and proactive road safety initiatives.
He introduced the “Find it, Fix it” (FIFI) approach for early risk detection and emphasized extending safety standards to vendors and partners.
Japanese safety methodologies such as S-A-F-E-T-Y (Search, Analyze, Find, Eliminate, Tell, You) and KYK (Kiken Yochi Katsudo) were shared as effective models for hazard prediction.
Prominent industry leaders including Praveen V Thampi (Tata BlueScope Steel), Ajitesh Monga (Tata Cummins Pvt Ltd), Mr. Jagjit Singh (TSDPL), and Mr. Basudev Hansdah (Tata Power) shared their perspectives on leadership, employee empowerment, and continuous learning as pillars of a resilient safety culture.
Safety Exhibition and Collaborative Exchange
The event also featured a concurrent exhibition with over 40 exhibitors showcasing cutting-edge safety solutions and best practices in occupational health, fall protection, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Discussions highlighted innovations in workplace ergonomics, sustainable safety models, and digital monitoring systems aimed at enhancing workplace well-being.
With industry stalwarts, government representatives, and technology innovators sharing their insights, the 6th CII Jharkhand Safety Talk reinforced a unified vision — to integrate human behavior, technology, and leadership for a safer, healthier, and more productive industrial ecosystem.
