
UditVani, Jamshedpur : A tragic road accident on NH-320 D claimed the lives of an uncle and his nephew on Wednesday evening near Asantaliya School under Sonua police station area in neighbouring West Singhbhum.
The deceased have been identified as Padlochan Mahato (65) of Gajpur village and his nephew Subhash Chandra Mahato (28) of Hathiya village in Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
According to reports, Padlochan Mahato had travelled to Chakradharpur with his nephew for medical treatment. While returning home on their motorcycle, a speeding unidentified vehicle rammed into them and fled the scene.
The collision was so severe that Subhash Chandra Mahato died on the spot, while Padlochan Mahato, who sustained critical injuries, was rushed to the Sonua Community Health Centre with the help of local residents. However, he too succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The twin tragedy has cast a shadow of grief over both families and their respective villages.
In receiving information, Sonua police reached the accident site, took possession of the bodies, and sent them for post-mortem examination.
A case has been registered against the unknown driver, and police have begun examining CCTV footage from the surrounding areas to trace the vehicle and its driver.
Local residents alleged that accidents have become frequent along the Goelkera–Chakradharpur route due to reckless driving.
They have urged the administration to take strict measures to control speeding and prevent further mishaps on this busy stretch.
