
UditVani, Jamshedpur: Jharkhand has experienced an exceptionally wet start to the monsoon season this year.
According to rainfall data issued by the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi, the state received 306.5 mm of rainfall from June 1 to June 28, 2025, against a normal of 170.3 mm, marking an 80% surplus—categorizing the overall rainfall as ‘Excess’.
Out of 24 districts, a majority have recorded ‘Excess’ rainfall, while a few reported ‘Normal’ precipitation.
Lohardaga (174%), Ramgarh (147%), and Simdega (144%) topped the list with the highest positive departures from normal rainfall.
Other districts showing significant excess rainfall include West Singhbhum (87%), Dumka (94%), Ranchi (87%), and Latehar (148%).
Garhwa (-1%) and Giridih (-17%) were among the few that received ‘Normal’ rainfall, while no district fell into the ‘Deficient’ or ‘Scanty’ categories.
This favorable monsoon onset is expected to boost agricultural activities across the state, especially sowing of paddy and other Kharif crops.
However, officials caution against possible waterlogging or flash floods in low-lying areas if the trend continues.
