UditVani, Jamshedpur : Jamshedpur FC’s remarkable 2024–25 season came to a close with a 0–3 defeat to FC Goa in the final of the Kalinga Super Cup at the Kalinga Stadium on Sunday night. Despite a determined display, the Men of Steel were unable to find the back of the net, as FC Goa capitalized on their chances with two goals from Borja Herrera (23’, 51’) and one from Dejan Drazic (72’) to lift the trophy.
The game started brightly for Jamshedpur, with Jordan Murray setting up Javi Hernandez for a powerful shot in the 3rd minute that forced an early save. However, FC Goa struck first in the 23rd minute when Borja Herrera pounced on a rebound following Stephen Eze’s block.
Jamshedpur fought back with intensity. Ashutosh Mehta came close with a glancing header from a Javi Hernandez corner in the 36th minute, and Lazar Cirkovic’s header rattled the crossbar just before halftime — a near equaliser that summed up Jamshedpur’s misfortune on the night.
The second half saw Jamshedpur push higher in search of a goal. They had the ball in the net in the 53rd minute through Iker Guarrotxena Siverio, but it was ruled offside.
A penalty appeal was also waved away in the 60th minute. Goa punished them shortly after, as Herrera unleashed a sublime strike to double the lead in the 51st minute.
Drazic then added a third in the 72nd minute, finishing off a swift counterattack to put the result beyond doubt.
Although they fell short in the final, Jamshedpur FC can look back on their season with pride. Under the leadership of Indian head coach Khalid Jamil, the team mounted an incredible turnaround in the Indian Super League, reaching the semifinals and narrowly losing to eventual champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant.
That momentum carried into the Super Cup, where they defeated Mumbai FC to reach their maiden domestic cup final.
Jamshedpur’s commitment to youth development and Indian coaching talent has been a hallmark of their campaign. With seven academy graduates in the squad and a homegrown head coach at the helm, they’ve shown that success can come from a clear vision and grassroots investment.
Their Super Cup journey may have ended in defeat, but the foundation they’ve laid promises a bright future for the club.
