Uditvani, Jamshedpur: CSIR–National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML), Jamshedpur, hosted a grand celebration of “JAN JAYTIYA GAURAV DIVAS” today.
The event honored the rich legacy of tribal freedom fighters, commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. Declared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 15, 2024, this year-long national initiative aims to recognize the invaluable contributions of tribal communities to India’s history and development.
The celebration at CSIR–NML was graced by several eminent personalities including Dr. Sandeep Ghosh Chaudhuri, Director, CSIR–NML; Dr. Naresh Chandra Murmu, Director, CSIR–CMERI, Durgapur; Dr. Manoj M. Humne, Chief Scientist and SC/ST Representative; and Aditya Mainak, Administrative Controller.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from 300 students representing 10 tribal schools of East and West Singhbhum, along with their teachers and CSIR–NML staff.
The chief guest, education minister of Jharkhand, Ramdas Soren, delivered an inspiring address. He highlighted Jharkhand’s rich tribal heritage and its historical struggle for “Jal, Jungle, Zameen” (Water, Forest, and Land), sharing stories of tribal heroes like Tilka Manjhi, Sidho-Kanhu, and Phulo-Jhano. Urging students to embrace curiosity and scientific thinking, he encouraged them to set clear career goals and take advantage of institutions like CSIR–NML to fuel their aspirations.
He also shed light on the Jharkhand government’s efforts to promote girls’ education through initiatives like the “Medha Samman Yojana,” and announced the establishment of three new CBSE-affiliated residential schools modeled after Netarhat Vidyalaya, designed to prepare students for national-level examinations.
Sandeep Ghosh Chaudhuri welcomed the guests and paid tribute to Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s role in India’s freedom struggle and socio-cultural upliftment.
Dr. Naresh Chandra Murmu, Director, CSIR–CMERI, encouraged students to embrace science and technology as tools of empowerment and progress.
The program concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Aditya Mainak, marking a memorable day of pride, purpose, and inspiration for all attendees.
