UditVani, Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur Management Association (JMA) organised a session with Sanjiv Paul (Former Vice President (Safety, Health & Sustainability), Tata Steel) on the occasion of World Environment Day. The session, on the theme of ‘Sustainability of Planet Earth’ was organised at Centre for Excellence. More than 80 participants, including representation from Tata Steel, TSUISL, ICICI Bank, Tata Steel Long Products, Tata Pigments etc. participated in the event. There was representation from Manipal Tata Medical college, XLRI, Jamshedpur based SMEs, JMA board and management committee members which made it an extremely diverse audience.
The context of the session was set by Chanakya Chaudhary, President-JMA and Vice President (Corporate Services), Tata Steel. He welcomed everyone who was present for the session and introduced Paul.
Speaking on the occasion, Sanjiv Paul shared insights on how human actions have been detrimental to sustainability of life on Earth. While the planet is itself sustainable, life on earth is only sustainable if the inhabitants conduct themselves in a responsible manner. He is spoke about ‘World Overshoot Day’, which refers to the day by which all the renewable ecological reserves of the year are exhausted. With each passing year, the date is shifting closer to 1st January, the target should be push it closer to 31st December.
The session was highly engaging as there were numerous questions around how individuals and society as a whole can contribute to a positive impact on environment.
A token of appreciation was presented by President JMA to Sanjiv Paul, acknowledging the latter’s efforts towards creating a larger awareness on the subject.
