UditVani, Jamshedpur: In a move aimed at improving urban mobility and easing congestion in the city’s busy commercial areas, the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) convened a meeting of the Municipal Technical Advisory Committee at its office under the chairmanship of the Deputy Municipal Commissioner.
The meeting focused on strengthening traffic management and improving parking infrastructure across the city.
During the meeting, officials emphasised the need to create and expand parking facilities in key market areas.
Authorities were directed to identify available spaces in prominent commercial zones for developing new parking areas, while also enhancing and better managing existing parking sites.
Parking contractors currently operating in the city were instructed to ensure that parking attendants follow a proper dress code to maintain discipline and order at parking locations.
The committee also deliberated on developing new parking zones in the Sakchi and Bistupur areas to reduce vehicular pressure in these high-footfall markets and ensure smoother traffic flow.
In addition, officials were directed to clearly demarcate no-parking zones on major roads and in congested stretches to prevent roadside parking that often disrupts traffic movement.
To further ease congestion, the meeting stressed the need to regulate roadside vending by developing designated vending zones so that traffic movement remains unaffected and footpaths and roads can be utilised more efficiently.
The Deputy Municipal Commissioner also instructed officials to conduct a detailed assessment of the city’s existing parking capacity in comparison with the number of registered vehicles.
The exercise is expected to help authorities plan adequate parking infrastructure in line with the city’s future needs.
Appealing to citizens and business establishments, the Deputy Municipal Commissioner urged them to keep public spaces in front of their premises free from encroachment, warning that enforcement action may be initiated against violations.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Traffic Police, Tata Steel, the Fire Services Department, the Special Officer, Accounts Officer, City Manager and other concerned officials.
