According to the latest weather bulletin, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and wind speeds of 40-50 kmph are likely at isolated places across the state on June 3 and June 6.

Similar conditions are expected over eastern and adjoining central districts on June 4 and 5, while southern and central parts may witness thunderstorm activity on June 7.

South-eastern districts are likely to be affected on June 8.

The weather department has also warned that wind speeds could locally intensify, with gusts reaching up to 75 Kmph during thunderstorm events.

The prevailing weather pattern is being driven by two active trough systems extending across central and eastern India, creating favourable conditions for rain-bearing clouds, lightning and strong winds over Jharkhand.

The changing weather has brought significant relief from the scorching summer heat.

Maximum temperatures across most parts of Jharkhand are currently hovering 2°C to 5°C below normal, aided by persistent cloud cover and intermittent rainfall. Weather officials expect below-normal temperatures to continue over the next several days.

“We have finally got relief from the intense heat, but the strong winds and lightning are a concern. People need to stay indoors when storms approach,” said Sonari resident Amit Kumar.

The IMD has advised people to avoid open fields, water bodies, electric poles and sheltering under trees during thunderstorms. Residents have also been urged to keep track of weather updates and take necessary precautions to prevent lightning-related accidents.

While the cooler conditions are expected to provide respite from heat stress, localized disruptions such as uprooted trees, damage to temporary structures and power outages cannot be ruled out during periods of severe weather.
