विजेता को 75 हजार की पुरस्कार राशि मिली
शुभम नारायण, जिन्होंने विजेता के तौर पर 75,000 रूपए की पुरस्कार राशि हासिल की, ने अपनी जीत पर खुशी जाहिर करते हुए कहा, “पहले अपना फुल कार्ड पक्का करना और अब आठ साल बाद कोई टूर्नामेंट जीतना, वह भी अपने प्रोफेशनल करियर की पहली खिताबी जीत, मेरे लिए बेहद खास है. इसके साथ ही मैंने किसी टूर्नामेंट में अब तक का अपना सबसे कम चार दिवसीय स्कोर भी दर्ज किया. भले ही यह सिर्फ क्यू स्कूल है, लेकिन जीत तो जीत होती है और यह मेरे आत्मविश्वास को और मजबूत करता है.”पूरे हफ्ते मेरे पुटिंग ने मेरी लय बनाए रखी. अतिरिक्त दिन खेलने के दबाव के बावजूद मैं अपने खेल और सोच को नियंत्रित रख सका, यह मेरे लिए बेहद खास रहा. ऐसी स्थिति में आमतौर पर यह अंदाजा नहीं रहता कि क्या होने वाला है. यह काफी अनोखा अनुभव था, क्योंकि जब मैं सुबह कोर्स पर पहुंचा, तो वहां लगभग कोई नहीं था.

ड्राइविंग रेंज पूरी तरह खाली थी. ऐसा लगा जैसे मैं सिर्फ प्रैक्टिस के लिए आया हूं, और इसी एहसास ने मुझे सहज रहने और खेल में ढलने में मदद की.पिछले कुछ सीज़नों से मिली सीख ने मेरे खेल के प्रति नजरिए को बदलने में काफी मदद की है. पहले मैं खुद पर जरूरत से ज्यादा दबाव डालता था, लेकिन अब मैं ज्यादा धैर्यवान हूं. अपनी अपेक्षाओं को बहुत ऊंचा नहीं रखता और खुद को गलतियों की गुंजाइश देता हूं. उम्मीद है कि मैं इस फॉर्म को पूरे सीज़न में बरकरार रख सकूंगा.” फाइनल राउंड में कट तीन-अंडर 281 पर सेट हुआ, जिसके साथ शीर्ष 33 खिलाड़ियों ने 2025 टाटा स्टील पीजीटीआई सीज़न के लिए अपना फुल कार्ड सुरक्षित कर लिया.

Twenty-seven-year-old Shubham emerged Q School champion on Saturday morning with a par on the 13th hole (third playoff hole). Shubham’s opponent Anant missed out on a par on the third extra hole.

Shubham Narain (71-64-67-66) and Anant Singh Ahlawat (67-64-67-70), both sons of Army officers, went into a playoff on Friday after they were tied at the top at totals of 16-under 268 at the end of the regulation 72 holes. Both players then made pars on the first two playoff holes. As further play was not possible due to the fading light on Friday evening, the resumption of play was scheduled for Saturday at 7 am.

Shubham, who turned pro in 2017 while he was still a teenager, came out on Saturday and made a two-on and two-putt for par on the par-4 13th hole which was used as the third playoff hole. He tapped-in for his winning par putt from one and a half foot. The 28-year-old Anant, a former All India Amateur champion, on the other hand, missed his par putt from eight feet that brought his challenge to an end.

Shubham, who bagged the winner’s cheque worth Rs 75,000, said, “First sealing my full card and now winning a tournament after eight years and that too my first one as a professional is very special. I also ended up with my lowest four-day total at an event. This may be just the Q School but a win is a win and that gives me a lot of self-belief going ahead.”

He went on to say that putting kept the momentum going for him through the week.

“The learnings from the past few seasons have helped me change my approach towards the game. Earlier, I felt I was too hard on myself. But I’m more patient now, I don’t keep my expectations too high and give myself more room for error. Hopefully, I can carry forward this form into the season, ” he added.

The cut in the final round had gone at three-under 281 which meant that the top 33 players earned their full cards for the 2025 Tata Steel PGTI season.

Amateur Anant Singh Ahlawat of Panchkula carded a 64 to be placed second at 11-under 131.

The halfway cut went at three-over 145. Out of a field of 126, the top 88 players including 14 amateurs and 13 foreign players made the cut.

Gurugram-based Ankur Chadha (67-63), who was tied second and one shot off the lead after round one, came up with an outstanding bogey-free round of 63 on Wednesday, to emerge leader by one shot. Ankur, who has been a runner-up on the PGTI, registered six birdies on the front-nine and added two more on the back-nine.

The 30-year-old Chadha made two chip-ins, drove the par-4 12th green and capitalized on the par-5s during his second round.

Ankur said, “I putted much better today as compared to round one as I fared better in reading the speed of the greens. I was a bit more conservative with my putts from outside 15 feet. A bogey-free round gives me a lot of confidence going ahead. I’m quite familiar with Golmuri since I’ve played here many times before so that is an added advantage for me. I’ll just look to keep doing the same in the next two rounds.”

Anant Singh Ahlawat produced eight birdies and a lone bogey on Wednesday to rise from tied second to sole second place.

Pune’s Divyansh Dubey, the first-round leader, shot a 66 to end the second round in third place at 10-under 132.

At the end of round four, the top 32 players will earn their full cards for the 2025 PGTI season.

Twenty-four-year-old Hoshi Rakesh Yadav, making his third attempt at the PGTI Q School, posted an error-free round that featured an eagle and four birdies. Yadav began the day with a 10-feet birdie conversion on the first and followed that up with a great recovery from the rough and a 12-feet eagle conversion on the ninth.

Hoshi, who originally hails from Gurugram and has played college golf in the United States, added three more birdies to his card on the back-nine thanks to his outstanding wedge shots on the par-3s.

Yadav said, “Even though I didn’t make the grade at the PGTI Q School in my previous two attempts over the last two years, the experience of having played at Golmuri earlier helped me a lot in planning my round today. My ball-striking was good and beginning the day with a birdie really got me going. The eagle on the ninth gave me a further boost and helped me finish well.”

Md Razu produced seven birdies and a bogey to tie Yadav for the joint lead.

Amateurs Vishesh Sharma and Neil Jolly were tied for third having carded scores of five-under 66.

Out of a total field of 129, the top 27 players (+ ties) will qualify from Pre-Qualifying III, a 36-hole event, for the Final Qualifying Stage.

This was the last of the three Pre-Qualifying events.

Mishra (66-68), who hails from the DLF Golf & Country Club, Gurugram, ended up with a total of eight-under 134 to finish three shots clear of the rest of the field.

From a total field of 109 in Pre-Qualifying II, the top 28 players qualified for the Final Qualifying Stage as the cut was declared at one-over 143.

Shat Mishra, the overnight leader by one shot, put together five birdies and two bogeys during his round of 68 to continue his domination at Pre Q II.

Shat, a nine-time winner at the junior level, made two great recoveries after finding the trees on the eighth and 18th to pick up birdies there.

He also made his longest conversion of the week, a 20-footer, on the fifth, to earn another birdie. Three of his birdies came on the par-5 holes.

Mishra said, “I was quite relaxed after my low score of 66 in round one. I just kept it simple today by trying to keep the ball in play. Whenever I was in trouble, I recovered with some great shots. I played the par-5s really well over the two days as I was six-under on the par-5s this week. Winning the Pre-Qualifying event by a decent margin does wonders for my confidence going into the Final Qualifying Stage.”

Md Solayeman of Bangladesh and Shubham Narain of Delhi finished tied second with totals of five-under 137.
