UditVani, Jamshedpur: Parts of Jharkhand are likely to experience Norwester-induced weather activity over the next few days, with forecasts indicating partly cloudy skies and the possibility of light rain or thunderstorms at isolated locations.

On March 7, Saturday such conditions are expected mainly over the south-eastern parts of the state.

The activity may shift towards the eastern districts on March 8, while the north-eastern and adjoining central regions could witness light rain or thunderstorms on March 9.

On March 10, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy with chances of light rain in some areas.

Meteorologists attribute the evolving weather pattern to several atmospheric systems influencing eastern India.

An upper air cyclonic circulation that earlier persisted over north Odisha has now moved to northwest Odisha and adjoining areas at about 0.9 Km above mean sea level.

A trough extending from this system stretches up to northwest Uttar Pradesh across north Chhattisgarh and northeast Madhya Pradesh at the same level.

Moreover, another upper air cyclonic circulation remains active over Bangladesh and adjoining regions at around 3.1 km above mean sea level.

The interaction of these systems is likely to trigger Norwester activity, bringing brief spells of rain, gusty winds and occasional thunderstorms across parts of Jharkhand.

UditVani, Jamshedpur : Jharkhand witnessed light rainfall and occasional thunderstorms at isolated places over the past 24 hours, even as monsoon activity remained weak across the state.

According to the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi, a few regions received brief spells of rain, while most areas experienced subdued monsoon conditions. Panchet DVC in Dhanbad recorded the highest rainfall of 21.8 mm, and Godda registered the state’s highest maximum temperature at 34.8°C.

The Met department has forecast a gradual improvement in weather conditions over the coming days. On October 10, light to moderate rain may occur at isolated places, but from October 11 to 13, Jharkhand is expected to experience dry weather with partly cloudy to mainly clear skies dominating most regions.

In terms of synoptic systems, a Western Disturbance persists as a cyclonic circulation over northwest Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas, seen between 1.5 and 4.5 km above mean sea level. Additionally, another upper air cyclonic circulation over south Bangladesh and adjoining regions, extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level, continues to influence weather patterns in eastern India.

With these systems gradually weakening, monsoon activity is expected to subside further, leading to predominantly dry and clear weather across Jharkhand from Saturday, October 11.

UditVani, Jamshedpur: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded an alert for Jharkhand as widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are expected to continue over the state for the next four days.

Monsoon conditions have turned vigorous following the persistence of a well-marked low-pressure system over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas.

Forecast for July 28 to 31

According to the weather bulletin, on July 28, heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over north-eastern and adjoining central districts of Jharkhand.

Thunderstorm and lightning, accompanied by gusty winds with a maximum speed of 30–40 km/h, are expected in many parts of the state.

On July 29, similar conditions will prevail with heavy rainfall confined mainly to the north-eastern districts.

For July 30 and 31, the department has forecast thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds at isolated places across Jharkhand.

Active Monsoon Systems

A well-marked low-pressure area lies over northwest Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood. “The system is currently associated with a cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 Km above mean sea level and is expected to move westwards gradually while weakening over the next 12 hours,” said an IMD official.

A trough line also runs from this circulation to northeast Bangladesh, passing through northeast Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and north Gangetic West Bengal.

In addition, the monsoon trough at mean sea level now extends from Bikaner and Kota, across the low-pressure area, through Daltonganj and Digha, into the east-central Bay of Bengal.

“These combined systems are keeping the monsoon active over Jharkhand,” the official added.

Rainfall in the Last 24 Hours

In the past 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms was recorded at most places across the state, with heavy rainfall at isolated locations.

The highest rainfall of 74.4 mm was recorded at Jhinkpani (West Singhbhum), while Godda reported the state’s highest maximum temperature at 33.2°C.

Monsoon Outlook

Meteorologists say that the active phase of the monsoon is expected to continue in Jharkhand as long as the low-pressure system remains influential.

Conditions may gradually improve after July 31 if the system weakens as predicted.

UditVani, Jamshedpur : Continuous heavy rainfall across Jharkhand has pushed the water levels of Kharkai and Subarnarekha rivers above the danger mark in East Singhbhum district, prompting the district administration to issue an alert.

According to official data, the Kharkai river was flowing over 5 mts above the danger level, while the Subernarekha river was around 2 mts above the critical mark.

The rising water has increased the risk of flooding in low-lying areas of Jamshedpur and nearby areas.

Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi has directed all urban bodies, block administrations, and field officials to remain on high alert.

Teams have been instructed to keep close watch on vulnerable localities, ensure relief and rescue measures are ready, and relocate residents from low-lying areas to safer locations if needed.

Arrangements for relief camps will be made if the situation worsens.

The District Disaster Management Authority is closely monitoring the situation, with rapid response teams on standby.

People have been urged to avoid going near riverbanks, remain on higher ground, and contact the authorities in case of emergencies.

Red Alert in Several Districts

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, and Seraikela-Kharsawan districts, forecasting up to 150 mm of rainfall today.

Simdega, Latehar, and Garhwa districts have already witnessed record-breaking rainfall in the past 24 hours, submerging roads and disrupting daily life.

Yellow alerts have also been issued for Gumla, Simdega, Lohardaga, Khunti, and Ranchi districts, warning of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds at around 40 Kmph.

The low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring heavy rain to southern and central Jharkhand over the next five days.

Authorities have advised residents to stay indoors and avoid non-essential travel until conditions improve.

Udit Vani, Jamshedpur: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a prolonged spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall across Jharkhand, triggered by an intensifying low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal.

The weather system is expected to bring widespread downpours, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across multiple regions of the state until July 29.

Rainfall Outlook:

July 25:

South-Eastern parts of the state are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Most other regions, except the North-West, may receive isolated heavy rain.

Thunderstorm and lightning, accompanied by gusty winds (30–40 kmph), are expected at scattered locations.

July 26:

Southern and Central Jharkhand may receive isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall.

North-Western districts are also expected to experience heavy showers.

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) likely at isolated places.

July 27–28:

Heavy rainfall is anticipated across Southern, Central, and North-Western regions.

Thunderstorm activity with gusty winds will continue in localized areas.

July 29:

Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur across isolated areas throughout the state.

System Update:

The low pressure area currently lies over the central region of north Bay of Bengal, as observed at 08:30 IST on July 24. The system is supported by a cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above sea level and is tilting southwestward with height. It is likely to intensify into a well-marked low pressure area within 24 hours and move west-northwestward towards West Bengal and adjoining North Odisha coasts in the next 48 hours.

Simultaneously, the monsoon trough passes through Sri Ganganagar, Sirsa, Meerut, Hardoi, Patna, Jamshedpur, and Digha, stretching southeastward to the center of the low pressure zone.

IMD Appeal :

The IMD has advised the public to remain vigilant due to the risk of urban flooding, waterlogging, and localized disruption in transport and power. Farmers should secure crops and livestock as a precaution.

People are encouraged to stay updated through official weather bulletins and follow local administrative advisories.

Udit Vani, Jamshedpur : Jharkhand is bracing for another intense spell of monsoon activity as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds over the next three days.

A fresh low-pressure system building over eastern India is expected to drive the weather changes.

IMD Forecast:

July 15: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in north-western and adjoining north-central districts. Parts of north-eastern and central Jharkhand may also witness heavy showers.

Thunderstorms with lightning and wind speeds of 30–40 km/h are likely in scattered areas.

July 16: The rainfall intensity is expected to continue, with heavy to very heavy precipitation anticipated in north-western and north-central parts of the state. Northern and central districts are also likely to receive heavy rain, while thunderstorms may occur across isolated areas.

July 17: Thunderstorm activity is expected to persist, though rainfall may become more scattered in nature.

The change in weather is being influenced by a well-marked low-pressure area currently located over southeast Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining parts of Bangladesh.

The system, supported by an upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 Km and tilting southwestward with height, is forecast to intensify into a depression within the next 24 hours and move northwestward.

Additionally, the monsoon trough — a key driver of seasonal rainfall — now stretches across Bikaner, northeast Rajasthan, northwest Madhya Pradesh, Siddhi, Ranchi, and the center of the low-pressure area over southeast Gangetic West Bengal and Bangladesh. This alignment is creating favorable conditions for enhanced rainfall across the region.

With the likelihood of waterlogging, local flooding, and disruptions to transportation and daily life, the IMD has urged residents and local authorities to remain vigilant and take appropriate safety measures during this active phase of the monsoon.

Udit Vani, Jamshedpur: Jharkhand is set to experience a surge in monsoon activity, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds across various parts of the state until July 15.

The renewed intensity in the weather pattern marks a strong return of monsoon conditions after a relatively subdued start to the season.

Forecasts

July 12: Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) are likely at isolated locations across the state.

July 13: Southern and adjoining central districts are expected to witness heavy rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning.

July 14: Northeastern and southeastern areas may receive intense rainfall, while thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely across the state.

July 15: The northeastern parts of Jharkhand are likely to see heavy downpour, with continued thunderstorm activity at isolated places.

Weather Systems Driving the Activity

The intensified monsoon phase is being driven by a combination of atmospheric conditions:

A cyclonic circulation, initially over south Jharkhand, now lies over north Chhattisgarh, extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.

The monsoon trough at sea level runs through Bikaner, Deomali, Hamirpur, Daltonganj, Jamshedpur, and Digha, before moving into the northeast Bay of Bengal.

A secondary trough from southwest Uttar Pradesh to northwest Bay of Bengal, passing through north Odisha, is also contributing to the rainfall activity.

Public Advisory

The IMD has advised people to remain cautious during thunderstorm occurrences, particularly in open and vulnerable areas. Citizens are urged to follow safety guidelines, while district administrations have been alerted to prepare for potential localized disruptions like waterlogging or strong winds.

The current spell is expected to boost agricultural activity across the state, offering a timely respite to farmers awaiting consistent rains for kharif sowing.
