गिरिडीह के खोरीमहुआ अनुमंडल के एसडीपीओ राजेंद्र प्रसाद ने बताया कि तिसरी थाने में 23 जनवरी को दो नाबालिग लड़कियों के अपहरण की एफआईआर दर्ज कराई गई थी. इसमें एक व्यक्ति पर संदेह जताया गया था. इस मामले में एसपी के निर्देश पर एक विशेष जांच टीम का गठन किया गया.

एसआईटी ने जांच शुरू की तो तकनीकी सर्विलांस के जरिए अपहृत नाबालिगों के पश्चिम बंगाल में होने की सूचना मिली. इसके बाद गठित टीम बंगाल के हल्दिया पहुंची, जहां डुमरी टोल टैक्स के पास छापेमारी कर ट्रक चालक अमित कुमार और मुख्य आरोपी छोटे लाल को हिरासत में लिया गया. पूछताछ के दौरान दोनों आरोपियों ने अपहृत नाबालिगों के संबंध में जानकारी दी.

आरोपियों की निशानदेही पर पुलिस ने दोनों नाबालिग किशोरियों को सकुशल बरामद कर लिया. बरामदगी के बाद पुलिस टीम दोनों नाबालिग लड़कियों को लेकर तिसरी थाना लेकर पहुंची, जहां आगे की कानूनी प्रक्रिया पूरी की जा रही है. इस मामले में पुलिस ने फर्रुखाबाद के रोकरी निवासी छोटे लाल और पटियाला निवासी ट्रक चालक अमित कुमार को गिरफ्तार कर न्यायिक हिरासत में भेज दिया है.

एसडीपीओ राजेंद्र प्रसाद ने बताया कि आरोपियों के पास से मोबाइल फोन तथा एक ट्रक जब्त किया गया है. पुलिस का कहना है कि मामले से जुड़े अन्य पहलुओं की भी जांच की जा रही है और अपहरण से संबंधित सभी कड़ियों को खंगाला जा रहा है. नाबालिगों की बरामदगी के लिए छापेमारी करने वाली टीम की अगुवाई तिसरी थाना प्रभारी रंजय कुमार कर रहे थे.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Piyush Pandey, said that relentless investigation, strategic deployment of multiple teams and strong technical surveillance compelled the kidnappers to abandon their plan and release the victim unharmed.

“The abductors have been identified and raids are being conducted at several suspected locations. Their arrest is only a matter of time,” the SSP asserted.

Kairav Gandhi had gone missing under mysterious circumstances on January 13 from the Bistupur police station area, triggering widespread concern across the city.

The case gained prominence due to the family’s standing and the unusual manner in which the abduction was executed.

According to police, the kidnappers used a vehicle resembling a police car, complete with police stickers, to carry out the crime on the busy Sonari–Kadma Link Road, enabling them to evade immediate suspicion.

The SSP revealed that the kidnapping was executed with the intention of extortion.

The family received ransom calls soon after the abduction; however, both the family and the police administration firmly refused to yield to any monetary demands.

“Our priority from day one was the safe recovery of the victim. No ransom was paid, and we chose to corner the criminals through sustained pressure,” SSP Pandey said.

Investigators relied heavily on technical evidence, including mobile phone tracking, CCTV footage and intelligence inputs.

Police teams were sent across Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal and Odisha, conducting continuous raids and tightening the noose around the suspects.

As the pressure mounted, the kidnappers panicked and decided to abandon the victim.
