According to the forecast, isolated pockets of Garhwa and Palamu are likely to experience severe heat on May 27, while eastern and adjoining central parts of the state may witness thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching 50-60 kmph. Districts such as Simdega, Gumla, Hazaribagh and Kodarma are also expected to receive thunderstorm activity with wind speeds of 40-50 kmph.

The weather department has further predicted that on May 28, north-eastern and adjoining central districts, including Dhanbad, Bokaro, Hazaribagh and Koderma, are likely to remain under the impact of strong thunderstorms and lightning.

Similar conditions with gusty winds are expected to continue across isolated areas of the state till May 31.

“People are advised to remain alert during thunderstorm activity and avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles during lightning,” a weather official said.

Another official noted, “The present weather pattern is being driven by an upper air cyclonic circulation over south Bihar and a north-south trough passing across Jharkhand, which is enhancing moisture incursion and atmospheric instability over the region.”

Meteorologists said the upper air cyclonic circulation persists over south Bihar and adjoining areas up to 1.5 Km above mean sea level, while the north-south trough extending from south Bihar to north coastal Andhra Pradesh across Jharkhand and interior Odisha continues to remain active, creating favourable conditions for widespread thunderstorm activity across the state.
