The convocation, to be held at the MTMC campus in Baridih from 11.30 am, will see 133 students receive their MBBS degrees and formally enter the medical profession.

The graduating students belong to the college’s first batch admitted during the 2020-21 academic session, making the occasion a defining milestone in the institution’s history.

Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar will preside over the ceremony and deliver the convocation address. Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Minister Irfan Ansari and Vijay Kumar, Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, will also attend the event.

Senior leadership from Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Tata Steel, members of the Governing Council, faculty members, healthcare professionals, parents and distinguished guests are expected to be present.

The ceremony is significant not only for the graduating students but also for the evolution of healthcare education in the region. Established in 2020 through a pioneering collaboration between MAHE and Tata Steel, MTMC is widely recognised as India’s first private-private partnership medical college.

The institution was conceived to bridge gaps in quality medical education and strengthen healthcare delivery in Jharkhand and neighbouring states.

In just six years, the college has emerged as a prominent centre for medical and allied health sciences education.

Today, more than 1,286 students are enrolled across undergraduate, postgraduate and allied health programmes, reflecting the institution’s rapid growth and expanding academic footprint.

Dean Brig. (Dr.) H.C. Bandhu described the graduation of the first MBBS batch as a proud and emotional moment for the entire MTMC community.

He said the achievement reflects the dedication of students, the commitment of faculty members and the strength of the academic ecosystem built through the MAHE-Tata Steel partnership.
Officials associated with the institution said the graduating doctors represent a new generation of healthcare professionals trained with a strong emphasis on clinical competence, ethics, compassion and community service.

Many of the graduates are expected to pursue postgraduate studies and specialist training, while others will join hospitals and healthcare institutions across the country.

For Tata Steel and MAHE, the convocation is also a validation of a long-term vision that combines academic excellence with social impact.

The partnership has sought to create opportunities for aspiring medical students while contributing to the development of a stronger healthcare ecosystem in Jharkhand.

As the first batch walks across the stage to receive their degrees, the convocation will symbolize far more than academic achievement—it will mark the successful culmination of a pioneering educational initiative and the beginning of 133 new journeys dedicated to healing and public service.
