UditVani, Jamshedpur : The Jharkhand government has announced a three-day state mourning following the demise of veteran political leader and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) founder, Dishom Guru Shibu Soren.
During this period, no official programs or celebrations will be organized across the state. As a mark of respect, the national flag will be flown at half-mast on all government buildings, and all government offices will remain closed on August 4 and 5.
Shibu Soren, who was 81, breathed his last earlier today at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi, where he had been undergoing treatment for age-related ailments.
Popularly revered as “Dishom Guru” (the guide of the land), Soren was a towering figure in tribal politics and a pivotal force in the creation of Jharkhand state in 2000.
A three-time Chief Minister and former Union Minister, Soren’s political journey spanned over five decades.
His leadership of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha transformed it into a significant political force representing tribal rights and regional aspirations.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren, his son, expressed deep grief at the passing of the veteran leader and described it as an “irreparable loss” for Jharkhand.
Condolence messages have also poured in from across the political spectrum, including the Prime Minister, President, and leaders of opposition parties, acknowledging his immense contribution to tribal welfare and statehood.
The state government has also indicated that arrangements are being made for the transportation of his mortal remains from Delhi to Ranchi, where thousands of his supporters and admirers are expected to pay their final respects. The funeral will be conducted with full state honours.
Soren’s passing marks the end of an era in Jharkhand politics, leaving behind a legacy that shaped the identity and aspirations of the tribal heartland.
