Jamshedpur : A Jharkhand police personnel was critically injured on Monday in an IED blast triggered by naxals in the Chotanagara police station area of Chaibasa in neighbouring West Singhbhum district.
The injured jawan, Manoj Kumar Damai, was part of a joint search operation in the forest when he stepped on a hidden explosive device.
He was given initial treatment and later airlifted to Ranchi, where he is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
The incident occurred during a coordinated search operation by CRPF’s CoBRA battalion, Jharkhand Jaguar, and state police forces following intelligence input about top Maoist leader Anil, who carries a bounty of Rs 1 crore.
The blast caused a massive explosion, severely injuring the police personnel.
Confirming the incident, West Singhbhum police said that the anti-naxal operation in the area was ongoing.
This is not the first such attack in the region. On April 12, a police jawan – Sunil Dhan succumbed to injuries from a similar IED blast in the same area. In March, three CoBRA commandos were injured in another explosion in the Jeraikela region.
Security forces have recently demolished 11 major Naxal bunkers in the Babudera area of Chaibasa.
According to police sources, top Maoist leaders including Misir Besra, Anmol, Mochu, Anil, Asim Mandal, Ajay Mahato, Sagen Angaria, and Ashwin are still believed to be active in the Saranda and Kolhan forests, where combing operations continue.
