UditVani, Jamshedpur : With less than 24-hours to go for the D- Day -counting of votes for the state assembly polls – Kolhan region could be pivotal to the fate of both the major parties – BJP and JMM, parts of NDA and INDIA alliances.
The ruling JMM is eager to repeat its 2019 success, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is trying hard to make inroads into a region where it was completely wiped out in the last assembly polls.
The BJP had a poor show, getting wiped out of all 14 seats in 2019, but sees its new recruit Champai Soren, the former JMM veteran, as its trump card in the region.
According to poll pundits, Champai Soren could prove to be an agent of change. As a veteran JMM leader, he has won the Saraikela seat six times; earlier this year, however, he switched loyalties to the BJP, potentially changing political equations in the region.
Overwhelmed with NDA’s win projected by exit polls in six out of the 14 assembly seats in Kolhan, former chief minister Champai Soren said NDA would secure a majority and form a stable govt in the state after election results are declared on November 23.
The exit polls predicted BJP winning in Baharagora, Jamshedpur (East), Seraikela, Jagannathpur, Chakradharpur, and Ajsu in Jugsalai seat.
Close contests are expected in Ghatsila, Potka, Ichagarh, and Jamshedpur (West) constituencies
Ironically , if the exit polls results turns into a reality, it would mean a turnaround from 2019 assembly polls when BJP failed to secure any seat despite contesting all 14 constituencies.
Champai said, “The people have overwhelmingly supported NDA candidates in both the phases of assembly polls. Wait for the results day, it would prove our claim.”
On the chief minister’s face in BJP, Champai Soren said that the party high command will take a decision in this regard and everyone will have to accept it.
BJP’s state spokesperson Amarpreet Singh Kale said, “Exit polls reflect the state’s political direction. The voters have supported the policies and programmes of BJP on November 13 when Kolhan voted and also in the second phase.”
The BJP state spokesperson said that they were sure of winning 6- 8 seats in Kolhan.
” BJP is rejuvenated to throw out the most corrupt government from the state. The BJP is set to win at least 8 seats of 14 in Kolhan this time. This will mark the turning point of the election and propel us to power,” he added.
BJP candidates from prominent political families include: in Potka, Meera Munda, the wife of former Union Minister Arjun Munda who lost the Lok Sabha election earlier this year; in Jamshedpur East, Purnima Das Sahu, the daughter-in-law of the former CM Raghubar Das, who is now the Odisha Governor ; Geeta Koda, wife of former CM Madhu Koda in Jagannathpur; and Champai Soren’s son Babulal Soren in Ghatsila.
