Treatment worth more than Rs. 40 Crores availed
Udit Vani, New Delhi: The enrollment for the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card has achieved a significant milestone, reaching 25 lakh beneficiaries in under two months since its launch by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 29 October 2024.
Achievements and Impact
Since its launch, treatments worth over Rs 40 crore have been availed, benefitting more than 22,000 senior citizens aged 70 years and above. These citizens have received treatment for a variety of medical conditions such as Coronary Angioplasty, Hip fracture/replacement, Gall bladder removal, Cataract Surgery, prostate resection, stroke, hemodialysis, enteric fever, and other febrile illnesses.
Expansion of Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY
On 29 October 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the expansion of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) to include all senior citizens aged 70 years and above. This expansion provides all senior citizens in this age group with the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card, enabling them to avail healthcare benefits.
Health Coverage under Ayushman Vay Vandana Card
The Ayushman Vay Vandana Card offers a health cover of Rs 5 lakh for free to senior citizens aged 70 and above, regardless of their socio-economic status. Those belonging to families already covered under AB PM-JAY receive an additional top-up cover of up to ₹5 lakh per year for themselves.
Eligibility and Options for Existing Beneficiaries
Senior citizens already benefiting from schemes like the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), and Ayushman Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) must choose between their existing scheme and AB PM-JAY. Additionally, individuals with private health insurance or those covered by the Employees’ State Insurance scheme are eligible for AB PM-JAY benefits.
Medical Procedures and Pre-existing Diseases
The Ayushman Vay Vandana Card provides coverage for approximately 2,000 medical procedures and includes coverage for all pre-existing diseases from the first day, without any waiting period.
Registration Process
Eligible senior citizens can register for the Ayushman Vay Vandana Card through various channels. They can visit the nearest empanelled hospital for registration, or they can self-register by downloading the Ayushman app from Google Play Store or visiting the website http://www.beneficiary.nha.gov.in.
