UditVani, Jamshedpur: Tata Steel trainees showcased their technical prowess at a vibrant exhibition, impressing visitors with their innovative ideas and creative solutions during Tech-Ex 2023, 13th SNTI Technical Exhibition, organised on the occasion of 184th Birth Anniversary celebrations of Founder J N Tata.
The event, held at SNTI attracted a diverse audience of industry experts, stakeholders and curious onlookers who were keen to see what the trainees had to offer. It is open to all citizens between 9am and 6pm upto Sunday, March 5.
A total of 59 projects are on display out of which 41 are prepared by the cadre trainees of Tata Steel. The projects have been divided in five categories- Proshield, Smartronix, Greenolution, Technovation and Digitech.
Participants were from diverse location including Tata Metaliks, Hoogly Met Coke, Jamipol, BIT Sindri, BIT Mesra etc.
The exhibition featured a wide range of technical projects, spanning various fields and demonstrated the trainees’ expertise and skill in each area. Some of the standout exhibits included:
1. Accident and Fire Prevention System for Vehicles
2. Food Waste Measurement System (a smart device to create awareness and reduce food wastage on each plate)
3. Real Time Visibility of Classroom Occupancy
4. Robotic setup for thickness measurement
5. Gear wear analysis using image processing
6. Wireless EV charging using renewable energy source
7. DIGIYAAN- Real time bus tracking system
8. Automatic detection of PPE
9. The blaze eradicator
10. Health monitoring of hydraulic cylinder
11. Smart Bench
12. AI based dimension measurement of hot stock billet
The Accident and Fire Prevention System for Vehicles has been developed by a team of trainees at Tata Steel. The team has presented a prototype that triggers an alarm when the vehicle crosses a speed limit. The system is equipped with a sensor that gets activated on vehicle collision. It has the ability to alerts the local authorities (ambulance service and the police station) and can send them information about the accident along with the location and google map link to their smart devices. It is also equipped with a fire alarm system.
The Food Waste Measurement System uses 4 wire load cell to measure the food waste, an amplifier to make value redable, RID card reader to identify the person wasting food. It used a mechanical setup for automatic removal of plate after capturing data. The data – which includes food waste against an individual ID is transferred to a spreadsheet. This project has been developed to create a sense of accountability at individual level.
Real Time Visibility of Classroom Occupancy uses sensors to detect if a room is occupied or vacant. The output of every class can be displayed collectively on a mobile application. It also automatically shuts down all electric connections including air conditioning if the room is not occupied for a certain period of time.
Smart Bench uses solar modules placed above the benches. These modules generate electricity for the lights and fans used in the bench.
Visitors had the opportunity to interact with the trainees, ask questions, and gain insights into their projects. Many commented on the high quality of the exhibits and the level of professionalism demonstrated by the trainees. Some visitors even expressed interest in collaborating with the trainees on future projects.
The exhibition was the culmination of several months of hard work and dedication by the trainees, who received guidance and support from their mentors. The event provided a platform for the trainees to showcase their skills and potential to a wider audience and gave them valuable experience in presenting and communicating their work.
Overall, the trainee-led technical exhibition was a resounding success, demonstrating the talent and creativity of the next generation of technical experts. It was a testament to the value of investing in training and development programs and highlighted the important role that trainees can play in driving innovation and progress in their respective fields.
The exhibition was inaugurated on Friday by Noel N Tata, Vice Chairman Tata Steel and will be available for all to visit till tomorrow.
