Jamshedpur : A good news for Loyoleans who achieve academic excellence. They stand to get scholarship next time.
The Loyola High School ICSE Batch of 1977 had set up at Trust in 2018 to assist in projects concerning society at large and the area of education in particular.
According To the trustees, considerable work was done during the Covid period wherein they could restrain the onslaught of the virus in two villages by medicinal and other interventions.
” However the time had now come to think of something bigger and more sustainable involving our Alma Mater, ” said one of the trustees.
In October 2024 the Mast 77 Legacy Trust (as the Trust is called) had decided, with the support of all the students of the Batch , to set up a ‘Batch of 1977 Endowment’
to fund scholarships for Loyoleans who achieve academic excellence.
” The endowment would be the
collective tribute of the 1977 Batch to our school, our teachers, and Jamshedpur, the city where we grew up, ” said the member of the trust
The Endowment is now operational and the trust is deeply thankful to all donors whose contribution has made this possible in less than two months.
The Endowment will be parked with Loyola High School in the form of a fixed deposit.
The annual interest will be used for funding five scholarships of Rs 10,000 each to be given to the toppers of the five academic streams who will be graduating from Std XI to XII.
The school will use only Rs 50,000 of the interest that will accrue every year. The additional interest, if any, will be added to the endowment corpus.
The trust will step in if required to top up the fund.The school will inform the Trust of the winners every year, and ‘Batch of 1977’ representatives will be invited for the annual prize night to witness the distribution of the scholarships.
Notably, the school will not have the option of using the Endowment for any other purpose, normal shall the school have the option to change the criteria for deciding the winners other than their academic achievement.
For institutionalising the scholarships from 2025, the Trustees (Sudhansu Pathak, Mahendra Gupta, Amresh Sinha, Gautam Mascharak, Vivek Lamba, Framroze Bugli) met the principal of Loyola High School
Fr. Vinod today and handed over a cheque of Rs 7 lakh to him.
Speaking on the occasion Fr.Vinod said , “ The scholarships will enable the students to do better. I appreciate this great initiative and thank you for your generosity. This will also connect you to your Alma Mater. The beneficiary students will also be encouraged to do the same.”
The names of the beneficiaries of these scholarships will be announced at the 2025 annual prize night, usually held in March-April, which will be a proud, happy and gratifying occasion for each one of the
Batch of 1977.
