UditVani, Jamshedpur : A dramatic turn of events at Tatanagar Railway Station late Friday night sparked chaos after a group of minor girls traveling by the South Bihar Express was allegedly being taken for religious conversion. Activists of a Hindu nationalist outfit intercepted the girls, raised an alarm, and handed them over to the Government Railway Police (GRP).
Preliminary reports suggest five young men were escorting the girls. While three were detained immediately, two slipped away amid the commotion. The GRP has launched an intensive search for the fugitives even as it interrogates the apprehended trio.
A senior functionary of the Hindu outfit, said the operation was carried out following a tip-off from a fellow passenger. “Investigations so far indicate the girls were to be taken to Patel Bagan in Sundernagar, where a conversion exercise was allegedly planned,” he asserted.
The episode intensified when three priests from Jamshedpur appeared at the GRP station and attempted to intervene. Their move, however, was strongly resisted by activists, forcing them to retreat without success.
GRP officials confirmed that statements of the girls are being recorded to establish their identity, place of origin, and the intent of their travel. “We are probing the matter with utmost gravity. The truth will surface once the investigation is complete,” a senior officer remarked.
The incident drew a large crowd to the station precincts, with animated discussions reverberating late into the night. Hindu organizations have denounced the episode as a “conversion conspiracy” and demanded exemplary action from the authorities.
To avert further unrest, additional security personnel have been deployed across the station and adjoining areas.
