
UditVani, Ranchi: A shocking incident unfolded in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district on Friday morning when a man shot a young woman and later died by suicide in the Khalari police station area.
The incident took place around 8.30 am near the KDH Colony ground gate.
The deceased has been identified as Sunil Kewat alias Chhotu (33), while the injured woman is Payal Kumari (29), a teacher at Raj Children School in KDH Colony. Payal was on her way to school when the accused allegedly opened fire at her.
The bullet hit her neck, leaving her critically injured.
After the attack, Sunil reportedly returned to his house in the colony and shot himself in the head, resulting in his death on the spot.
Local residents rushed the injured woman to CCL Central Hospital, Dakra, from where she was referred to RIMS, Ranchi, due to her critical condition.
Hospital sources said her condition remains serious.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the incident is linked to a love affair.
Police said Sunil was originally a resident of Bilaspur in Chhattisgarh and had been living in Khalari at his relative’s house.
The injured woman’s father is an employee of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL).
Police also revealed that before carrying out the act, the accused had recorded a video explaining his reasons and shared it in a local social media group.
The video has been taken into custody as part of the investigation.
Khalari police reached the spot soon after receiving information, collected evidence, and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
A detailed probe is underway to examine all aspects of the case.
The incident has created an atmosphere of fear and tension in the area.
