Unnecessary pulling of the alarm chain on a running train results in an unscheduled halt, significantly delaying its journey.
As a result, not only does the particular train get delayed, but the movement of other trains on the route also get affected. Such actions cause significant discomfort and anxiety among passengers and lead to increased congestion on the railway line.
This also puts added pressure on the train crew and control staff who then have to manage the delays.
According to available statistics, in the month of April this year, 68 cases of alarm chain pulling were reported in the Chakradharpur Railway Division, followed by 56 cases in May.
In this regard, 63 arrests were made in April and 49 in May. Appropriate action has been taken by the Railways in each instance.
The alarm chain is a critical safety device, intended strictly for emergencies. Misuse of this feature is not only illegal but also deeply irresponsible. It disturbs an entire system that serves lakhs of passengers daily.
Therefore, passengers are advised to refrain from pulling the alarm chain unless absolutely necessary.
A single act of negligence by one individual can cause widespread trouble for many.
