UditVani, Jamshedpur : Ahead of another crucial clash against Punjab FC on February 21st at JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur FC defender Pratik Chaudhari reflected on last season’s memorable victory, a result that proved pivotal in the Men of Steel’s push up the ISL table.
The previous encounter saw Jamshedpur secure a vital win that lifted them to third place with 31 points, narrowing the gap to second-placed FC Goa and strengthening their bid for a play-off finish and semifinal finish at the end of the season. For Pratik, the night remains special, not just because he scored a goal.
“I remember that game very clearly,” Pratik said adding, “It was an important match for us in the standings, and scoring that header made it even more special. Rei delivered a perfect corner, and I just focused on timing my jump and directing it on target. Thankfully, it went in.”
The breakthrough came in the 41st minute when Pratik rose above the Punjab defence to power home a header from Rei Tachikawa’s pinpoint delivery, giving Jamshedpur the lead.
Javi Hernandez later doubled the advantage early in the second half after capitalising on a loose clearance from the Punjab goalkeeper.
“It was a big result for us,” Pratik continued and said, “At that stage of the season, every point mattered. Climbing to third gave us belief and momentum. It showed that when we are focused and united, we can compete with anyone.”
As Jamshedpur prepare to face Punjab FC once again, Pratik believes the lessons from that victory remain relevant.
With memories of last season’s decisive performance still fresh, Pratik and the Men of Steel will aim to replicate that resilience and attacking sharpness as they try to buildup on their first match win against Mohammedans SC.
