
UditVani , Jamshedpur: Relentless overnight rainfall has thrown life into disarray across the Potka block of East Singhbhum, with widespread flooding inundating homes, schools, and roads.
The Gurra river is in spate, triggering a chain of flood-related disasters that have snapped road connectivity and endangered lives.
In a dramatic turn of events, floodwaters entered the residential campus of the Lav Kush Awasiya Vidyalaya in Pandarsoli, located along the Haldipokhar-Kowali main road.
As water surged into the hostel, scores of terrified students scrambled to the rooftop to escape drowning. Following distress calls, the district administration launched a full-scale rescue operation to evacuate the stranded children to safer locations.
In the Hessel-Aamda panchayat’s Kharbandh village, river water breached the embankments and entered homes. Several schools in the region reported water gushing through their premises like torrents.
In Baridih village under Harina, floodwaters flowed over roads, rendering them impassable.
Crucial routes have been severely damaged. The road near Begnadih on the Haldipokhar-Kowali stretch has been washed away, cutting off vehicular movement. Water is overflowing on the Sangram Bridge along the Potka-Sangram route, while culverts between Bhalki and Babhan Basa on the Potka-Kowali road have been swept away. Several segments of the Bagho-Dhirol road are also submerged, posing grave risk to commuters.
The administration has urged residents to stay indoors and avoid flood-prone zones as rescue teams continue relief and evacuation efforts amid rising water levels.
Authorities remain on high alert as weather conditions show no immediate signs of improvement.
