Udit Vani Jamshedpur : The southwest monsoon is gradually making its presence felt, and weather conditions are expected to turn more active over the next two days, with the meteorological department forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (30–40 km/h) across various parts of the state.
On Tuesday, June 10, southern and central regions are likely to witness isolated thunderstorms, potentially causing brief but intense wind gusts and lightning strikes. By Wednesday, June 11, the weather system is expected to affect wider areas, with thunderstorms predicted across isolated parts of the entire state.
Monsoon Progress and Synoptic Conditions
The Northern Limit of the Southwest Monsoon (NLM) continues to advance steadily. As of now, it extends from 17.0°N/55°E to 30°N/85°E, passing through Mumbai, Ahilyanagar, Adilabad, Bhawanipatna, Puri, Sandhead Island, and Balurghat, indicating further inland progression into east and central India.
Adding to the weather activity, a significant upper air cyclonic circulation has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and nearby regions, including north coastal Odisha and south Gangetic West Bengal. This system is located between 1.5 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level and is likely to enhance moisture inflow and convective activity over the region.
Public Advisory
* Residents, particularly in rural and coastal areas, are advised to take precautions:
* Avoid outdoor activities during thunderstorms and lightning.
* Secure loose items such as tin sheets, hoardings, and tarpaulins that could be displaced by gusty winds.
* Farmers are urged to delay harvesting or outdoor agricultural operations during the forecast period.
As the monsoon gains momentum, more widespread rainfall and storm activity are expected in the coming days, bringing much-needed relief from the heat but also raising the potential for localized weather disruptions.
