UditVani,Jamshedpur : Criminal activities kept the city on edge last night as incidents of theft and burglary were reported from different police station areas.
Police have begun investigations in all cases and intensified the hunt for the culprits.
The most significant incident occurred in Kashidih under Sakchi police station limits, where a ration shop was targeted by burglars. According to the shop owner, Sumit Kumar Agarwal, miscreants decamped with property worth around ₹1.5 lakh, including ₹70,000 in cash and a large stock of dry fruits.
Reports suggest that the criminals broke open the shop’s old and weak door before committing the crime and fleeing the spot. The theft came to light when the shop was opened in the morning, after which the matter was immediately reported to the police.
Sakchi police reached the scene soon after being informed and launched a probe. CCTV footage from the vicinity is being scanned to identify the culprits. The station in-charge stated that suspects are under surveillance and the case will be cracked soon.
Local residents alleged that anti-social elements have been active in the area for a long time. They demanded stronger night patrolling to curb such incidents, stressing that an increased police presence could act as a deterrent.
For now, police have assured that the perpetrators will be nabbed at the earliest. However, the incident has once again raised questions over the city’s security arrangements.
