
UditVani, Jamshedpur : In a swift breakthrough, police in the Kadma area of steel city arrested a man for allegedly breaking into a Shiva temple and stealing cash from its donation box to fund his drug addiction.
The theft took place at a temple located on Ramnagar Road No. 6 under Kadma police station area.
Acting on a written complaint lodged by Chandrika Prasad, police registered a case against an unidentified individual for breaking open the temple lock and decamping with cash from the donation box.
During the investigation, officers relied on technical evidence, CCTV footage, and confidential inputs to trace the accused, identified as Laxman Jogi alias Bappi Jogi.
He was apprehended from his residence while allegedly counting the stolen money.
According to police, the accused confessed during interrogation, admitting that he targeted the temple to procure funds to sustain his addiction. A total of Rs 11,976.50 — comprising currency notes of various denominations and coins — was recovered from his possession.
Police records reveal that the accused has a criminal history, with multiple cases registered against him in Kadma and Bistupur police stations for theft and other offences.
He has previously served jail time.
The accused has been remanded to judicial custody.
Meanwhile, local residents have lauded the prompt police action and urged authorities to strengthen security arrangements at places of worship to prevent such incidents in the future.
