Udit Vani Ranchi/Garhwa/Singrauli: The death of a worker from Jharkhand at the 1,200-megawatt Adani Power plant in Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh has sparked outrage among workers, leading to protests, vandalism and arson inside the plant premises.
The deceased has been identified as Lallan Singh, a resident of Garhwa district in Jharkhand, who was working at the power plant. According to reports, his health suddenly deteriorated on Friday (March 13) night, after which he died.
When other workers came to know about the incident on Saturday (March 14), they staged a protest that soon turned violent. Angry workers allegedly vandalised the company’s office and damaged several vehicles parked inside the premises. Some vehicles were overturned and parts of the facility were set on fire.
The situation further escalated when police reached the spot. Enraged workers reportedly damaged a police jeep and smashed its windshields. To bring the situation under control, the administration deployed additional forces, and around 200 police personnel were stationed in the area.
Workers alleged that Lallan Singh died after falling from a height, and accused the company management of trying to suppress the incident and hide the body, which led to anger among the labourers.
However, the company management has denied these allegations, stating that the worker died at his residence and that the preliminary cause of death appears to be a heart attack. According to the Singrauli district administration, the body was sent to Baidhan Trauma Centre for a post-mortem examination, and the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the report is received.
The incident has drawn attention in Jharkhand as well, as a large number of workers from the state migrate to other parts of the country for employment. In recent months, several such tragic incidents involving migrant workers from Jharkhand have been reported. Earlier, six labourers from Jharkhand lost their lives in an accident at a construction site in Gurugram, raising serious concerns over the safety and working conditions of migrant workers employed outside the state.
