UditVani, Ranchi : The Jharkhand High Court on Monday heard a contempt petition filed over the delay in conducting Urban Local Body (ULB) elections in the state.
The petition was filed by former councillor Roshni Khalkho and others, expressing concern over the prolonged postponement of civic body polls.
During the hearing, Advocate Vinod Singh presented arguments on behalf of the petitioners.
Representing the state government, the Advocate General informed the court that all necessary proposals and preparatory documents related to the elections have already been submitted to the State Election Commission (SEC).
Meanwhile, the SEC apprised the court that it requires an additional eight weeks to complete the remaining procedures for holding the elections.
Accepting the request, the High Court granted the commission the stipulated time to finalize arrangements.
The bench has scheduled the next hearing in the matter for March 30, 2026.
On that day, the State Election Commission will be required to submit an affidavit detailing the progress made toward election preparations.
Advocate Dheeraj Kumar appeared on behalf of the petitioners in the High Court proceedings.
