UditVani, Jamshedpur: Skywatchers in Jamshedpur will get an opportunity to witness a rare celestial spectacle on Tuesday evening as a total lunar eclipse unfolds globally.
However, due to the timing of moonrise in eastern India, residents of the steel city will be able to see only the concluding partial phase of the eclipse.
The lunar eclipse, which occurs when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, casting its shadow on the lunar surface, will enter the umbral phase at approximately 3:20 PM.
The total phase of the eclipse will begin at around 4:34 PM , reaching its peak at about 5:03 PM and conclude by 5:33 PM.
The entire umbral phase will end at approximately 6:48 PM.
In Jamshedpur, moonrise is expected between 5:50 PM and 6:00 PM.
By this time, the total phase will have already ended. As a result, residents will see the Moon rising in the eastern sky with a partial shadow still covering a portion of its surface.
Astronomy enthusiasts can expect the Moon to appear partially darkened, with a faint reddish hue possible due to the Earth’s shadow.
The remaining partial phase will be visible for nearly an hour after moonrise, until the eclipse fully concludes around 6:48 PM.
While Jamshedpur will miss the dramatic totality phase, the sight of a partially eclipsed Moon emerging on the horizon promises to be a captivating experience—weather conditions permitting.
Observers are advised to look toward the eastern horizon at moonrise for the best view. Unlike solar eclipses, lunar eclipses are safe to watch with the naked eye.
Though only a partial view will be visible locally, the event remains part of a globally significant total lunar eclipse, making it a noteworthy astronomical occurrence for Jharkhand.
