UditVani, Jamshedpur: A tragic road accident claimed the life of a trailer driver in the early hours of Tuesday in the Bistupur police station area of Jamshedpur, near the Marine Drive roundabout.
The accident occurred at around 3 am when a trailer transporting iron pipes from Rungta Mines reportedly lost control and crashed into the road divider.
The collision was so intense that the driver’s cabin was completely crushed, leaving the driver trapped inside the wreckage.
The deceased has been identified as Suman Kumar.
Following the crash, chaos prevailed at the spot. On receiving the alert, Bistupur police rushed to the spot and, with the assistance of local residents, carried out a difficult rescue operation to retrieve the body from the mangled cabin.
The body was later sent for post-mortem examination.
Police officials said that over speeding or driver fatigue is suspected to be the cause of the accident, though investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crash.
The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety and the risks faced by heavy vehicle drivers during late-night and early-morning travel on city roads.
