UditVani, Jamshedpur: With the festive spirit of Phalgun in the air, Holi markets across the city have come alive in a riot of colors and bustling crowds.
Key commercial hubs such as Sakchi, Bistupur and Mango are witnessing a surge in shoppers, while Ishwar Bazaar has emerged as the focal point of festive buying this season.
From early morning, customers have been thronging the market lanes, exploring an expansive range of colors and water guns.
A Spectrum of Colors and Prices
This year’s market offers an impressive variety of traditional and premium colors. Conventional gulal in red, pink, green and yellow is retailing between Rs 60 and Rs 100 per packet.
Herbal variants — marketed as chemical-free and skin-friendly — are priced higher, ranging from Rs 120 to Rs 180 per packet.
Special silver and golden shimmer gulal is selling for up to Rs 200.
For children, cartoon-themed color packs are available between Rs 80 and Rs 150, while 500-gram color powder packs are priced between Rs 70 and Rs 130.
Traders report a noticeable shift in consumer preference toward herbal and eco-friendly products.
Pichkaris in Over 20 Designs
Water guns, or pichkaris, are available in more than 20 designs and models this season.
Basic plastic pichkaris are priced between Rs 40 and Rs 70.
Larger tank-fitted variants range from Rs 150 to Rs 350. Cartoon and superhero-themed designs are attracting young buyers at prices between Rs 120 and Rs 250.
Premium metal-body and high-pressure pichkaris are being sold for Rs 400 to Rs 600, while mini versions for toddlers are available at Rs 30 to Rs 50.
Eco-Friendly Theme Gains Momentum
A notable highlight this year is the dedicated section for herbal and organic colors under the “Eco-Friendly Holi” theme. Water balloon packets are also selling steadily at Rs 20 to Rs 40 per pack.
Shopkeepers are optimistic that sales will accelerate further as Holi approaches.
The vibrant displays and heavy footfall clearly indicate that Jamshedpur is gearing up to celebrate the festival of colors with full enthusiasm and grandeur.
