UditVani, Jamshedpur: The Archery Ground at the JRD Tata Sports Complex has transformed into a vibrant arena of skill, loyalty and elegance as the 79th, 80th and 81st Championship Dog Shows, organised by the Jamshedpur Kennel Club, began with much fanfare on Friday.
Drawing 326 dogs from across the country, the three-day event stands as one of eastern India’s most prestigious platforms for showcasing elite canine talent.
Far more than a parade of good looks, the championship is a demanding test of training, temperament and obedience. Dogs compete in different classes—Class 1, 2 and 3—where each level brings tougher rules and higher expectations.
As the competition progresses, only the most disciplined and well-trained dogs advance, making every round a true measure of excellence.

The event was formally inaugurated by T. V. Narendran, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Steel, who hoisted the Kennel Club flag and unveiled the championship trophy.
In his address, he described the Jamshedpur Dog Show as a cherished tradition of the city, uniting dog lovers, breeders and trainers from across India on one prestigious stage.
The opening ceremony itself was a visual delight. Trained dogs from Tata Steel and Tata Motors greeted the chief guest by presenting bouquets, followed by thrilling displays of agility including hurdle jumps and dramatic wall-breaking acts that drew enthusiastic applause from the crowd.
Speaking about the legacy of the event, Kennel Club Chairperson Ruchi Narendran noted that the club was founded in 1977 and has hosted dog shows every year since 1978.
Jamshedpur has also earned national recognition by hosting two All-India Dog Shows, in 2014 and again in 2025, cementing its place on the country’s canine map.

This year’s championship features an impressive range of breeds from across India.
Judges are closely assessing every dog on key parameters such as obedience, focus, gait, structure and temperament.
From precise responses to handlers’ commands to calmness amid noise and crowds, every detail counts in the quest for the coveted “Best in Show” title.
The venue also offers special stalls for canine health, nutrition and grooming, along with well-arranged seating for spectators.
A dedicated grooming zone ensures that every participating dog is presented at its best.
Visitors say the event is not only entertaining but also educational, spreading awareness about responsible pet ownership and animal welfare.
As the competition continues over the next two days, Jamshedpur remains at the heart of India’s finest celebration of canine discipline, beauty and companionship.
