Udit Vani Jamshedpur: A district-level coordination committee meeting on tobacco control was held at the district collectorate auditorium under the direction of Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi and chaired by ADM (Law & Order) Aniket Sachan.
The meeting was attended by key officials including Dhalbhum SDO Shatabdi Majumdar, Ghatshila SDO Sunil Chandra, Civil Surgeon Dr. Sahir Pal, DPRO Panchanan Oraon, and others.
The session reviewed progress under the Tobacco Control Program and discussed challenges in enforcing the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003. ADM directed strict implementation through regular inspections by flying squads, prohibition of tobacco sales within 100 yards of educational institutions, and public awareness campaigns using posters, banners, wall writings, and community engagement.
Instructions were issued to declare schools, health centers, and public places as smoke-free zones.
Officials were urged to adopt a zero-tolerance approach and penalize violators under relevant sections of the Act. All attendees took a no-tobacco pledge and resolved to contribute towards a tobacco-free district and state.
